Treatment of bilateral superior oblique tendon sheath syndrome complicating rheumatoid arthritis.

چکیده
A 63-year-old retired mining engineer with rheumatoid arthtitis presented in November 1976 with intermittent diplopia on upward gaze. His diplopia became increasingly troublesome, particularly on waking, and he was admitted under the care of the rheumatologists for investigation in February 1977. He had a 6-year history of seropositive erosive rheumatoid arthritis with numerous extra-articular features, including weight loss, subcutaneous nodules, Raynaud's phenomenon, mild bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome, nail fold vasculitis, hepatosplenomegaly and pericarditis.

Brown's syndrome: an unusual ocular complication of rheumatoid arthritis.
A 55 year old man with rheumatoid vasculitis and an apparent left inferior oblique palsy is described. This unusual extraocular complication of rheumatoid arthritis probably resulted from a tenosynovitis of the superior oblique tendon sheath, and resolved with steroid treatment.
متن کاملSuperior oblique tendon sheath syndrome (Brown syndrome): MR findings.
Multiplanar capability and improved tissue characterization have made MR an important technique for study of the orbit . We report a case of a patient with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and vertical diplopia in whom Brown syndrome was diagnosed clinically [1] . MR clearly showed the fibrotic nature of the affected superior oblique tendon caused by chronic inflammation. To our knowledge, this is...
متن کاملTendon Expansion with Fascia Lata in Treatment of A-Pattern Strabismus due to Superior Oblique Overaction
Background: In 1991, Wright described a superior oblique expander procedure for browns syndrome and superior overaction with good results. Originally, this procedure has been performed with silicone band expander. The aim of this study was to report the results of treatment of a series of patients with A-pattern strabismus associated with overacting superior oblique muscle using the fascia lata...
متن کاملUnusual sequelae of surgery in the superior oblique tendon sheath syndrome.
The superior oblique tendon sheath syndrome was first described by Brown (I950). The essential feature is a limitation of elevation in adduction caused by a short or inadequately mobile anterior segment of the superior oblique tendon and its sheath. Treatment of the condition is indicated if an abnormal head posture is necessary in order to maintain an adequate field of binocular single vision;...
متن کاملBilateral superior oblique tendon sheath syndrome. Occurrence and spontaneous recovery in one of uniovular twins.
Brown (I950) defined the features of the superior oblique tendon sheath syndrome and reported five cases. He postulated that the restriction in elevation of the affected eye in the adducted position was caused by a congenitally short anterior tendon sheath of the superior oblique muscle. As the eye moved into adduction, this ligament-like sheath became taut and strongly opposed the action of th...
